PROGRAM ADD-ONS

These three modules did not exist when BEYOND THE LINE started. They are here to cover all the pitfalls that we have seen impair some of our athletes performance, such as:

  • GI issues in races, poor body composition, inflammation due to the wrong food 
  • Lack of strength, muscles imbalances
  • Self-sabotaging thoughts, loss of focus and motivation, poor stress management

Each of these issues deserve a specific focus, hard work, and a consistent routine, just like with endurance training. The three modules should not be tackled at the same time, as they imply a deep involvement from the athlete, but they are all very well worth the money, especially if they cover one of your weaknesses.

Nutrition Module

Become a fat-burner and get rid of GI issues

Over 30% of Ironman triathletes experience serious gastrointestinal (GI) distress and two third of the non finishers experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and/or abdominal cramps. The body struggles to process much calories under long stressful races. Most athletes need to absorb 250 to 300 calories per hour to keep going. However, fat-adapted athletes can race on half that amount of calories, putting much less pressure on their digestive system, thus substantially minimising the risk of being hit by the usual list of gastrointestinal issues. 

Olivier has experienced all kinds of diets over the years, for performance but also for plain health reasons. With specific guidance before and during training, Olivier teaches you to become fat adapted and to get rid of sugar addiction. Note that this is not a full nutrition plan, as recommandations focus on the time window around training, but it is extremely effective.

Strength Training Module

Endurance-focus strength training periodised plan

Olivier has been going to the gym since 2000. He credits his longevity within the endurance sports arena to a handful of factors, lifting weight being one of them. Besides, 100% of BTL athletes who have been on this module have seen significant improvement in their performance.

With this module, you get a periodised program that mirrors your endurance sports program, so that you peak for the race(s) that matter. We use a Strength and Conditioning App, TRAINERIZE, which provides you with written explanations as well as videos of all the prescribed exercises. We cater to all kinds of situations creating training plans for athletes who train at home with minimal strength tools to those with access to a full gym. 

Minimum commitment: 5 months, can be all year-long

Mind Training Module

What stops us from performing at our peak potential is often what is in our head, more than the training that we have done. The creeping doubts, the self-depreciating thoughts, the social media pressure, the crumbling motivation, they all come back to bite us in the worst moments of training, and racing. It does not have to be that way. Thoughts can be channeled, better still, they can be silenced. 

Olivier has experienced meditation for almost a decade and have done numerous retreats and classes. The last one, MPeak, is specifically dedicated to enhancing mind strength for peak performance. This module is a mix of techniques experienced by Olivier. It provides an easy to implement framework and exercises on focused attention, self-reflection, breathing technique and meditation around your training sessions that will put you fully in control on race day, helping you reach the optimum outcome.

Commitment: 3 months, one-off

Special Challenges

Nothing is more exciting than an unusual challenge, for an athlete and for a coach. We have coached or are coaching athletes doing ultra-swim challenges over several days, Everesting cycling challenges (climbing the elevation of Everest in a day), trail running stage races etc. We have also provided fitness and strength programs for mountain climbing, and could offer a similar service to any type of physical challenge.

Olivier has himself swum for 80km over 5 days, has done an Everesting, and has climbed Aconcagua (highest summit in Southern atmosphere), typical feats where training literature is scarce and coaching experience comes very handy.

There is no pre-set fees for special challenges and we will make sure to find a one-of-a-kind package that leads you to success.

What separates your Fully Customised plan from other coaches’ programs?

What makes our coaching specific is first our understanding of the challenges faced by busy executives trying to be the best they can be in their sport while juggling with obligations and demands of all sorts: just like his athletes, while in banking, Olivier had to excel at analysing situations, finding solutions, planning and delivering, just to be able to find the time to train. Also, Olivier has been helping athletes working in a vast array of industries, including airline pilots, whose unusual schedule force to adapt the usual training concepts.

Second, Olivier has lived and trained in 3 European countries, in Latin America, in NYC, Singapore and Hong Kong. So he knows that each country brings its own challenge and opportunities, like riding conditions and climate. He knows what a typhoon in Asia means as well as a frost warning in New York. He has also raced all over the World and has a great network of athletes who can share their experience, so he will help you lay your annual racing plan on your way to your ‘A’ race, wherever you are on the planet. 

Finally, Olivier’s approach is truly holistic, and he has experimented a lot of practices that are often cast away by many coaches who see them as irrelevant or inefficient (keto diet, veganism, reverse periodization, meditation retreat, ice bath, yoga, HRV, heavy weight lifting, to name a few). This ‘no taboo’ approach allows to look for solutions under many angles, beyond the usual ‘train hard, recover well and hope for the best’.

What comes with the Fully Customised plans?

The Fully Customised plan first offers an assessment session during which we get the understanding of the drivers, the life situation, the time and gear available to train of the athlete. We then provide you with a training plan that perfectly fits your aspirations, level and available time. 

The plan is constantly being reviewed to reflect the changes in your life, like business trips, sickness, last minute holiday decisions, etc.

Equally important, if not more, you get full access to Founder and Head Coach Olivier, without limitations, mainly through Whatsapp and occasionally through calls or in person. Olivier answers all your questions on every topics related to your sport. Olivier also provides you with a specific assessment before your main race of the race, and a year-end assessment/following year view, if you have been working with Beyond The Line for over a year.

In which situations do you recommend Fully Customised plans?

There are several situations where this type of plans will help athletes, especially:

  • athletes who have reached a plateau, and want to get to the next level, without necessarily working out more hours
  • athletes looking for an experienced coach-athlete who fully understands the pressure of a corporate life
  • athletes searching for a dialogue, beyond a training plan
  • athletes who are curious to explore no grounds
  • athletes who usually train mainly by feel, and need a structure.

That being said, even the Fully Customised plan cannot cover all that is to know to excel at your sport. If an athlete wants to go further, we provide the various Programme Add-Ons.

What comes with the Semi Customised plans?

The Semi Customised plans provide an assessment made over the phone during which we get the understanding of the drivers, the life situation, the time, and gear available to train the athlete. We then design a semi customised plan that fits the athlete’s profile. There is however no follow-up on our side of what the athlete does and no alteration to the plan once we set it up. 

In which situations do you recommend Semi Customised plans?

There are several situations where this type of plans will help without breaking the bank. Over the years, we have come to realise that some athletes could benefit from our specific expertise, without necessarily requiring the fully customised option, namely:

  • athletes with limited financial resources wanting to get a plan that fits their special situation without paying for a full-time coach
  • athletes who have reached their annual big sporting goal wanting a maintenance or a base program without necessarily requiring a close supervision during their off-season,
  • athletes with no previous experience of online coaching situation wanting to have a taste for it before committing to the fully fledged plan,
  • athletes new to the sport arena looking for broad guidance for start with.

 If an athlete wants to go further, we provide the various Programme Add-Ons  on Nutrition, Strengh Training and Mindfulness, without paying for the Fully Customied training plan.

Why do you NOT provide plain off-the-shelves training plans?

While we believe that we have a great deal of knowledge in the field of endurance training and coaching and could easily design generic training plans that could work, our added value is in the understanding of the athlete we are dealing with and our capacity to create a plan based on this understanding. If we were to sell cheap generic plans, they would not be more adapted to the athlete’s specific situation than a free plan found on the web. This would be very remote from our mission statement.
